After spending time with some family in northern Virginia and Rob finishing up his last race weekend of the year at Virginia International Raceway, we headed out to explore this incredible country. Our goals are to find awesome mountain biking and hiking, travel the roads and paths less traveled, learn, meet people and connect with old friends, and whatever the road brings. You'll notice we love rocks and rock formations!
Here's a snapshot of our first month of adventures and working remotely.
Cumberland Gap National Historic Park and 3 State Corners (VA-TN-KY):
Mammoth Cave National Park KY where we biked and took a 4-hour cave tour.
Ferne Clyffe State Park, IL offered unique geological features, rock formations, hiking, and biking.
Water for this spring is carried in underground passages as far as 45 miles and flows at 286 million gallons of water/day! Water is a stunning blue.
Bentonville, AR, birthplace of Walmart is home to some of the best mountain biking in the country, the stunning Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art, a Frank Lloyd Wright designed house (Bachman Wilson) a beautiful parking garage, good eats, and so much more. We loved it here and stayed for 2 weeks. So nice to see families and kids out on bikes, hikes, walks and enjoying the downtown square in the evenings.
Palo Duro Canyon State Park, TX is the second largest canyon in the country located in the TX panhandle offering spectacular scenery, night sky, biking, hiking, camping, and equestrian trails. We were so lucky to be able to spend several days here before rain moved in impacting the camping and trails (which are still closed as I write this). Pictures just don't do it justice.
Where do you think we are headed next?
What wonderful sites you visited!
My guess for your next stop is Louisiana?
Awesome😎
